Executive Director

"I believe in the importance and value of access to justice as one of the fundamental human rights. At ESS we believe all persons are equal before the law and entitled without any discrimination to protection and equality before the law"

I, Erick Mukiza an executive director of ESS Creative and Legal Foundation started this organization because my mother suffered from accessing justice because she was a primary school teacher at Buguruni primary school her name is Grace Ndyetabura. Due to her status she could not afford to hire private advocate and she was not eligible to get legal aid for free because of her qualification. After this situation something popped to my mind that I had to ensure that all teachers and other related workers such as nurses, police, doctors and small entrepreneurs access justice through me including my mother.

I get inspired to see people who had once been left behind in accessing justice now can access it affordably, reliably through legal assurance service, legal assurance impact these people's lives by ensuring peace and harmony. It is for this reason among many that I continue the work and I don't intend to quit until I reach as many as people in the target group as I can be able to. Not only that but also, I get inspired by my team for believing in my vision and how they support me to the maximum, the team spirit they have; motivate me to continue working hard toward preventing and resolving justice problems of the people who were left behind in accessing justice.

"I am pretty sure that Access to justice is a basic principle of the rule of law. In the absence of access to justice people are unable to have their voice heard, exercise their right, challenge discrimination or hold decision-makers accountable

One of the major obstacles in accessing justice is the cost of legal advice and representation. Legal assurance program enhance access to justice for all by ensuring no one is left behind in accessing justice"

"I believe justice delivery is essential. The justice sector in Tanzania such as judiciary can offer much more value than they do now by engaging justice innovations like ESS Legal Assurance service in order to supplement justice sectors to implement sustainable development goal number 16.3 (Access to justice for all) which is ESS focus. In my opinion without justice innovations we cannot reach sustainable development goal 16.3 (Access to justice for all) by 2030. I call-upon donors to start investing to justice innovations so that all together we can ensure no one is left behind in accessing justice."

"Due to lack of access to justice many entrepreneurs, teachers, nurses, police, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are facing justice challenges because they cannot afford legal service costs such as legal advice and legal representation. I believe that effective affordable and timely justice service from our organization will strengthen relationships because justice is made of human relationships. Due to our extensive experience working in the justice sector as start-up, we have already known that teachers, nurses, police, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seeking justice, need resolution, improved relationships, restored harm, agreements, protection, and peace of mind but they cannot afford. Now they can access justice affordably through our legal assurance service"
